Honduras José Efraín Guevara

José comes from generations of pioneering coffee farmers and now works alongside his grandmother and two neighbors as Probando Ideas (“Trying Ideas”), a group focused on experimentation, collaboration, and innovation in coffee. As lead producer, he emphasizes coffee varieties, crop maintenance, and processing while navigating challenges such as climate change, pests, disease, and volatile prices. His resilience is especially remarkable: after losing a leg in an accident, José continues to navigate his mountainous farm on crutches and pursue his passion for producing exceptional coffee. The group uses organic fertilizers, shade trees, and crop diversity while sharing knowledge and training with other farmers. Looking ahead, José hopes to build a larger wet mill, begin roasting coffee, and keep experimenting—and he fuels that ambition with an impressive ten cups of filtered black coffee a day.
